Dr. Peng Guo will be presenting on the basics of quantum computing and the potential applications and impacts on human society. Did you know quantum computers can help solve problems that are too complex for even the most powerful supercomputers and may be able to discover new drugs and design new materials?

TINY MOVERS & SHAKERS: MICROCLIMATE, ANTS & INVADERS

Join us at Severance Brewing for our first Sioux Falls Science Pub event of the season, all about Sioux Falls urban ants! From acting as hunters, gatherers, and gardeners to providing a workforce for nature's clean-up crew, they are more important than you might imagine. Learn how they respond to their environment and how we are changing their world in a myriad of ways.

Our presenter is Dr. Diane Roeder, professor of biology at Augustana University, where she teaches introductory biology, ecology, animal behavior, and biostatistics. Trained as a behavioral ecologist, her prior research has focused on investigating extra-pair paternity in birds and coevolution between perennials and pollinators. Currently, she studies the relationship between microclimate and ant traits, which include thermal tolerance, thermal preference, and foraging behaviors in natural and urban environments.

This event is family-friendly. Stop by and grab a drink and a snack while you learn more about some of Sioux Falls' tiniest residents!

  2. Cascade Chronicles: Cascade Cougar | Hazy IPA | 6.1% ABV - A hazy IPA with Eclipse and Tango hops for tropical fruit aroma followed by grapefruit, stone fruit and slightly piney flavors.

  3. PBC Uprising (On Nitro) | Peanut Butter & Salted Caramel Amber Ale | 5.7% ABV - Tired of being relegated to stouts and porters, peanut butter and salted caramel shine in this smooth amber ale on nitro. The third of beertender Larry's homebrew recipes to be brewed at Severance!

  4. Narwhals Wear Cashmere | West Coast IPA | 6.1% ABV - An incredibly smooth West Coast IPA with earthy and herbal aroma and resinous, sweet nectar flavors made possible with Centennial, Columbus, Simcoe and Cashmere hops.
